Do introverts talk to themselves? Share thoughts out loud.

We all talk to ourselves when we are thinking! No one can guess what is going on in our minds unless we put them out there in a verbal or written form.

Talking to yourself(Self-Talk) and talking out loud to yourself are two separate things. Like all ordinary people, introverts do not speak out loud when alone, but Introverts do a lot of self-talk in their heads than extroverts do, which can result in negative overthinking, causing them not to take action.

Imagine you are the last person in cue to buy a movie ticket. Finally, it’s your turn to pay and get your ticket for the show, but the lady says, sorry, no more tickets, all sold out. While leaving, you start mumbling, “WHY ME, HOW COME THERE ARE NO MORE TICKETS” This behavior can be noticed as usual by strangers as you are in a situation and trying to vent emotions or express disappointment, frustration, sadness, etc.

The difference between talking to oneself and self-talk.

Self-talk is when someone talks to themselves or speaks to themselves in their mind. It is typically used as a coping mechanism and can be an alternative to talking aloud. Talking aloud is when you speak out loud, which means other people around you can hear it. The difference between self-talk and talking aloud is that others can listen to the latter, whereas the former cannot.

The self-talk technique is used when someone is attempting to make themselves believe what they’re doing or thinking is correct or better than it is. A common self-talk technique is to rehearse thoughts before an upcoming event, such as in a job interview or during a date. People who are struggling with pressure often use self-talk to calm their nerves.

When is it normal to talk to ourselves?

Toddlers, until around the age of ten, can be seen in public talking, singing, and whispering to themselves. And this is very natural and healthy because children do not care what other people may think of them. They have one purpose at this phase of their life: to be happy in an imaginary personality they see themselves in.

The main reasons for this process are:

  • Growing imagination
  • Flourishing memory
  • Growing personality

Children often play pretend with their imaginations to explore their surroundings and learn about the world. They use what they see, hear, feel, and even smell to create a more realistic experience.
In this case, children are not playing board games or computer games. They are playing with their imaginations by using their senses and creating an imaginary world consistent with what they have learned in the real world.

Imaginary games are a way for children to explore their creativity and imaginations. Children often play make-believe games by themselves without any adult supervision.
Children play imaginary games because they have the freedom to create their worlds and characters. They can be creative in their unique ways and play around with different scenarios until they find one that appeals to them.

How to stop overthinking and practice self-talk!

Self-talk is a powerful tool that can help you stop overthinking and focus on the task. When overthinking, our minds go in all sorts of directions.

Concentrating on what we are doing is often difficult because our thoughts are constantly wandering off. If you find yourself continuously thinking about something unrelated to the task at hand, try practicing self-talk.

Self-talk is simply repeating a phrase or sentence in your head while you perform a task. This method allows us to focus on what we need to do rather than worrying about unimportant things like past mistakes or future events.

Practicing self-talk can be helpful when it comes time for an interview or when your nerves get the best of you before a big presentation. It can also be beneficial in the following situations:

  • When you are feeling nervous during a panic attack.
  • When you feel your thoughts are going in circles and nothing makes sense.
  • In the middle of stressful situations, it would be easy to doubt yourself and feel like you are incapable of doing anything.

Overthinking is a common problem that many people suffer from. It can be hard to stop overthinking because it’s usually a habit we’ve developed, and it’s easy to fall into old patterns.

Practicing self-talk is a technique that you can use to stop overthinking. It helps you eliminate negative thoughts by replacing them with positive ones. You need to practice self-talk every day and make sure you’re doing it in the right way.

“I love how I am.”

“I do not need to be anyone else other than who I am.”

“I can handle this crisis without any problems.”

Introverts tend to talk to themselves more often than extroverts. They tend to be more reflective and use self-talk as a way of navigating through their thoughts.
Self-talk is the internal dialogue that we have with ourselves. The voice in our head tells us what we should do, how we should act, what we should think about, and how other people feel about us.
